Modica Chocolate: A Journey Through History and Flavors

Modica chocolate is unique in the world. Made with a technique dating back to the Aztecs, it’s recognized as a PGI product and represents one of Sicily’s gastronomic excellences. From Pozzallo, Modica is just 25 minutes by car.

The History

Aztec Origins

The Modica chocolate processing method has ancient origins:

  • Introduced to Sicily by the Spanish in the 16th century
  • Derives from the Aztec “xocoatl” recipe
